DOCUMENTARY SCREENING - THE LEGACY OF HAKKIPIKKI: 20 JUNE 2022 –
POSTGRADUATE CENTRE & DEPT. OF HUMANITIES (UG) IN COLLABORATION WITH SIEDS
(SOCIETY FOR INFORMAL EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
A documentary screening was organized for postgraduate and undergraduate students of SFS
College. postgraduate centre and department of humanities (UG) in collaboration with Society for
Informal Education and development Studies(SIEDS) planned the session on 20 June 2022. Around
250 students were participated in the session. Ms. Madhu Bhushan, Ms. Mamatha, Ms, Minu and
Ms. Sharanya from SIEDS presided over the show and discussed about the documentary,
A renowned activist and social worker Ms. Madhu Bhushan has been part of the women’s
movement for many years using a creative, critical and compassionate approach in her work on crisis
intervention, community outreach and campaigns & advocacy. She is also on the governing boards
of the Center for Vernacular Architecture and of the Alternative Law Forum. She addressed the
gathering and gave a brief introduction about the documentary Hakkipikki Tribal Community of
Karnataka. Post screening, Ms. Madhu had a detailed discussion with students about comparison
with the tribal group and urban population was made and actual meaning of civilization. The
students could understand the challenges, issues faced by the community. Documentary films tell
important, often unknown stories and bring awareness to a wider audience, and are some of the
best resources for information, inspiration and entertainment. Documentaries promote good work
and vision of the society.
